Why does the club close the range during some matches?Action Pistol matches, held on the 2nd Sunday of the month, are scheduled when the most members/guests can attend. This is a popular competitive shooting activity and is held every month of the year. Black powder, .22 rimfire rifle and centerfire rifle matches are held in the summer/fall every year on various days. We are changing the way we conduct Action Pistol Matches to make the rifle range more accessible to club members and the public on weekends. During 2010 we will be holding as many matches as possible in the pistol bays only to minimize impact to the rifle range. Unfortunately we do not have the ability to allow regular “open” range operations during large matches due to safety concerns; every effort will be make to keep the rifle range open during these times. While we realize that this prohibits the public (and members not participating) from using the range during large pistol matches it still fulfills our charter to provide a range for competitive shooting disciplines. If you plan on visiting our range please check the range reservations/closures posted elsewhere on this website. If you desire access to the range on weekdays you must be a member of CRPC; membership information is available on the main CRPC website. At only $75/year for a family membership it is real value and gives you access to the range on weekdays and discounted entry fees at some of our matches. Who are the officers of CRPC? When are the Action Pistol matches held, and where? The Action pistol matches are held on the first Sunday of each month, with the exception of the Night Shoot (the first Saturday in November). See the Match Schedule page for more details. The matches are held at CRPC’s Range on Conyers Road in Clatskanie, Oregon. Note: ALL SUNDAY PISTOL MATCHES WILL START AT 10AM; PLEASE SHOW UP EARLY TO ASSIST WITH SETUP, TO REGISTER AND HEAR THE BRIEFING. For the latest match info click the “Match Schedule” or “Current Events” links to the left. (NOTE: The Action Pistol match schedule is changing for the 2010 club year and starts on April 11th; see the Match Schedule page for details). How much does it cost to participate in the pistol matches?2010 Action Pistol match fees are $20 for club members, $25 for non-members. Can I bring any kind of pistol/holster?It is recommended you bring a center-fire pistol (revolver or semi-auto) of at least .38 Special/9mm or greater. We regularly engage reactive (falling) steel targets that require a significant amount of energy to knock over – many of our shooters use .45ACP or .40 S&W.
We will fire six scenarios (stages) in a match, with a total match round count of about 150; bring at least 200 rounds of ammunition. Many types of holsters can be used with the exception of shoulder holsters and certain behind-the back/cross-draw types for safety reasons. As always, EYE AND EAR PROTECTION IS MANDATORY for our competitors, observers and guests.
For more information please use the link to the Action Pistol Manual.
What kinds of targets are used in the matches? We use steel targets such as plates of various diameters, full-sized and miniature Pepper Poppers (a tall steel plate that falls when hit properly). Our primary cardboard target is the W-B target, an 18” x 30” size that has scoring zones. We also will use paper targets like standard NRA pistol targets or B-27 types. |
