Where can I find the Action Pistol competition rules?

The complete Action Pistol Safety Manual (which includes the competition rules) can be found by following the link HERE.

Why does the club close the range during matches?

Action Pistol matches, traditionally on the first Sunday of the month, are scheduled when the most members/guests can attend. This is a popular competitive shooting activity and is held every month of the year. Black powder, .22 rimfire rifle and centerfire rifle matches are held in the summer/fall every year on various days.

Unfortunately we do not have the ability to allow regular “open” range operations during these matches due to safety concerns. Future plans include installing pistol bays on the east side of the berm (including an access road) which should allow multiple shooting disciplines to use the range simultaneously, or allow us to have more efficient matches by forming squads and shooting more than four stages.

While we realize that this prohibits the public (and members not participating) from using the range during these times it still fulfills our charter to provide a range for competitive shooting disciplines. If you plan on visiting our range please check the range reservations/closures posted at the top of the main Action Pistol page.

If you desire access to the range on weekdays you must be a member of CRPC; membership information is available on the main CRPC website. At only $50/year for a family membership it is real value and gives you access to the range on weekdays and discounted entry fees at some of our matches.

When are the Action Pistol matches held, and where?

The Action pistol matches are held on the first Sunday of each month, with the exception of the Night Shoot (the first Saturday in November). See the Match Schedule for more details.

The matches are held at CRPC’s Range on Conyers Road in Clatskanie, Oregon.

Note: ALL SUNDAY PISTOL MATCHES WILL START AT 10AM; PLEASE SHOW UP EARLY TO ASSIST WITH SETUP, TO REGISTER AND HEAR THE BRIEFING. For the latest match info click the “Match Schedule” or “Current Events” links to the left.

How much does it cost to participate in the pistol matches?

Current Action Pistol match fees are $15 for club members, $18 for non-members.

Can I bring any kind of pistol/holster?

It is recommended you bring a center-fire pistol (revolver or semi-auto) of at least .38 Special/9mm or greater. We regularly engage reactive (falling) steel targets that require a significant amount of energy to knock over – many of our shooters use .45ACP or .40 S&W.

We usually fire four scenarios (stages) in a match, with a total match round count of about 50; bring at least one box of ammunition.

Many types of holsters can be used with the exception of shoulder holsters and certain behind-the back/cross-draw types for safety reasons. As always, EYE AND EAR PROTECTION IS MANDATORY for our competitors, observers and guests.

For more information please use the link to the Action Pistol Manual.

What kinds of targets are used in the matches?

We use steel targets such as plates of various diameters, full-sized and miniature Pepper Poppers (a tall steel plate that falls when hit properly). Our primary cardboard target is the W-B target, an 18” x 30” size that has scoring zones. We also will use paper targets like standard NRA pistol targets or B-27 types.
